Bringing affordable, nutritious dairy to families in Tanzania
Malnutrition continues to affect around 30% of children under five in Tanzania – access to safe, nutritious foods remains a challenge, especially in rural areas.
That’s why we’re proud to support the launch of a new fortified yoghurt in collaboration with Galaxy Food & Beverages and GAIN.
• The yoghurt is designed for low-income families and packed in 100ml sachets, making it easy to distribute – even in remote areas.
• It’s nutritious, affordable, and tailored to local taste preferences.
• With strong growth in dairy consumption in Tanzania, it also holds commercial potential – supporting a sustainable dairy value chain and local job creation.
The project builds on the first scalable business model developed in Ethiopia and is part of Arla Foods Ingredients’ commitment to the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge, now totaling DKK 4.2 million.
We’re excited to announce that, from August 2025, the project will enter a new phase catalyzed by funding from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
This next phase will focus on scaling the model and introducing new solar-powered milk cooling hubs close to dairy farmers to sustainably reduce milk spoilage, while securing dairy farmer incomes, and a stable supply of safe milk to dairy processors.
We’re excited about this next phase, documenting its impact and exploring opportunities to scale the model across East Africa.
